London Youth Rowing

Name of Project:
Go Rowing 2012
Amount awarded:
£16,050
Duration of grant:
January 2012 to December 2012

Go Rowing 2012 will share the excitement of a great Olympic sport with hundreds of young East Londoners – and bring them a new, rewarding, long-term interest. Rowing is a top British Olympic sport, sure to be a highlight of 2012. To transform this into a lasting legacy, we will run special rowing courses and taster sessions in Newham and Hackney throughout 2012. Participants, aged 11-to-18, will be recruited from our network of local state schools. The participants will create a film of their own experiences of rowing, including interviews with medal-winning Olympic and Paralympic rowers (eg Katherine Grainger and Tom Aggar). We will show this film throughout our schools network. Any audience members who are inspired to know more about rowing will be added to a database, and we will send them updates about GB Olympic rowers, plus other rowing stories, and encourage them to try out rowing for themselves.
