E17 Puppet Project

Name of Project:
The Puppet Games
Amount awarded:
£15,705
Duration of grant:
February 2012 to December 2012

This project will raise awareness and promote the Olympic and Paralympic values through a series of innovative and interactive Olympic-themed events - shadow puppet shows/workshops - aimed at children and their families living in Waltham Forest. We will work on these activities between February and December 2012 and deliver them in libraries close to the Olympic venues (Leyton, Lea Bridge, Leytonstone and Walthamstow). We will create a travelling Olympic Puppet Theatre, the design of which will include the 5 interlocking rings. After its launch in July, coinciding with the start of the games, the Olympic Puppet Theatre will travel to the libraries mentioned above till December 2012. We anticipate that children will have such a positive experience of attending these events that it will get them `hooked' on the Olympic story and Olympic and Paralympic values, and will share them with their peers/parents. The publicity for these events will clearly display the 5 interlocking rings and the ‘2012 It’s happening here’ logo so that people will instantly recognise this as an Olympic project.
