Newham All Star Sports Academy (NASSA)

The project uses community basketball sessions and competition to engage at-risk young people. The project offers a 90 minute weekly evening basketball session in each of the 5 Olympic Boroughs that will operate from 20.30 – 22.00. All sessions will be delivered by 2 experience NASSA coaches and will include a range of fitness and team building activities in addition to the basketball coaching. The project will also deliver weekly workshops through NASSA’s existing partnerships, including the metropolitan police, which will operate alongside the basketball programme tackling the growing issue of knife crime, gang activity, anti-social behaviour, conflict resolution, drug and alcohol awareness and community safety. Participants will be required to attend the basketball coaching and workshops to secure an opportunity to play in the Five Knights Tournaments that will be held on a Saturday night once a month.
